The following are a series of pieces I’ve created that I use in my Portfolio.

ABOUT ME
MA Concept Art
Howdy! I’m Pat Lee Nichols! I’m a student on the MA Concept Art course, having previously studied BA Comics and Graphic Novels. My specialty is character design, but I’m fully capable of environment and mechanical design work! I’ve been known to do graphic design and illustration from time to time, having written and illustrated a book for my BA FMP, The Winter War.

Employment, Work Experience and Volunteering
Worked as an assistant upholsterer from May 2016 – July 2017
This included work such as manual labour, as well as office work including phone correspondence, writing invoices, and dealing with clients. Due to these tasks I gained several skills such as communication skills, careful and efficient choice of language, and customer service experience.
I’ve been working on commission for the last three years, having illustrated two books and written one of them. I’ve had to learn many different styles for these due to the different needs that online commissions require.
South Staffordshire Youth Forum from May 2012 – August 2015
I worked on several community projects allowing me to work effectively within a team. This also gave me useful organizational skills. As part of Youth Forum, we also engaged in residential trips to enhance our team skills. From this I learnt that I can work very well as part of a team but can work equally as well in a leading position.
INTERESTS
I have an interest in reading, writing, and current and historical events. I also spend a lot of my time experiencing modern and classic films. Additionally, I dabble in film-based photography.
This interest in historical events and current affairs and culture has come in handy throughout my time drawing and has allowed me to create characters and environments that feel like they work, and people familiar with those themes and ideas notice the level of depth in them.
I’m also a tech enthusiast, I’d consider myself well engaged with the latest news and updates in the tech world and would definitely call myself well-informed when it comes to brands and technologies, and their design languages. This helps considerably when designing characters and what props they might have according to their character.
