Visual Novel Art
I’ve always found passion in art, and three years ago began working on digital art, however, it was of very poor quality. I’ve been practicing and working on this in my spare time for the last three years, and am constantly striving to improve. I’ve been unable to justify the cost of a graphics tablet so far, and so all of this work has been done using a mouse and keyboard in Photoshop.
Since beginning digital art I’ve become very comfortable with Photoshop and its capabilities, but am still pushing myself to learn more, and plan to progress my understanding of colour theories, how to create mood with colours and how I can overall develop my skills.
Any advice, suggestions or general feedback on these images is greatly appreciated.
UE4 Steam Supported Multiplayer Project
This project is currently shelved until deadlines are completed, but has been something I’ve been working on in my spare time. I wanted to gain a better understanding of networking within Unreal Engine and figured I’d attempt to set up a multiplayer game. So far, the project allows a player to host or join a server, and other players can join a hosted server by searching through a list of servers. This is all the project does at the moment, but for now I consider this a personal achievement and have plans to further develop this into a proper game.
Currently studying Game Design at Master’s level at Teesside University. I also studied Games Programming as an undergraduate and graduated with a 2:1 in Games Programming. I’ve enjoyed exploring different disciplines within game development, and have spend years working on 2D artwork, UI design and art and creative writing in my own time. My goals are to help bridge the gap of understanding between disciplines while developing my own understanding of the entire of each process of each discipline in order to most effectively release great games.
Most of my experience has come through my studies at Teesside over the last 5 years, however, I took a year out to be an assistant software developer for a gas company, CNG, where I was tasked with helping to develop the front-end application used by the customer experience team, fixing bugs, investigating errors, bugs and replicating them with customer experience staff and our testing team. I was also tasked with documenting the in-house framework and language used to create the software used in the company in preparation of a new CEO taking over with a new development team, and learned a lot teaching myself a new language and framework.
I have also spent most of my spare time in the last four years working on different personal projects, one of which is a visual novel coded in Python using RenPy, which challenged me to work on my 2D digital art and story development, as well as my Python coding skills.
I was also nominated to be the team leader of a 10-person team at university for a module where we were tasked with creating a multiplayer game. I worked with my designers, artists, animators and programmers to create a great project. I took responsibility for issues within the group and studied some Spanish in my spare time during this period in order to build up relationships with the Spanish members of our group.
