TETHERED – MATT LAYFIELD

Tethered is a short film exploring the experience of gender dysphoria and the resulting struggles individuals are faced with when transitioning in a society where the opinions on gender are still very black or white. The film is partially autobiographical in nature and explores my own views and opinions on gender, expressing my discontent with the reductionist nature of its current definitions. I hoped to develop my character animation skills and also allow myself to explore abstract animation within a narrative. I explore 2D digital animation as well as traditional abstract animation techniques within the short, utilising the software’s: Toonboom Harmony, Premiere Pro and After Effects.
